REGIONAL JOINT DOCTORAL PROGRAMME

IN

ENTERPRENEURSHIP AND SME MANAGEMENT

FOR WESTERN BALKAN COUNTRIES

INTRO                      

This doctoral programme is designed as a regional joint doctoral programme organized by eight universities: two universities from the Republic of Macedonia ( University 'St. Kliment Ohridski' – Bitola and South East European University – Tetovo), two universities from the Republic of Albania (University of Tirana and Agricultural university of Tirana) and one university from Kosovo (Dardania University – Prishtina), with support of three universities from the EU countries (University of Bologna – Alma Mater Studorium, Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona and University of Nice – Sophia Antipolis). The programme will be established at the Faculty of Economics – Prilep (UKLO)

In order to bring the doctoral programme closer to the needs and requirements of the labour market of the Western Balkan countries different institutions are included in the Programme such as: The Agency for Promotion of Entrepreneurship of the Republic of Macedonia (APERM), Macedonian Chambers of Commerce (MCC) and Seavus company from the Republic of Macedonia, as well as the Confederation of Albanian industries from Albania (Konfindustria). With their many years of intensive experience in the cooperation with businesses, they will offer transfer of practical knowledge, access to high technology and extensive database and practical training opportunities.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME:

  • to offer doctoral students possibility to study and detail theoretic and applicative research in the fields  - entrepreneurship and SME; 
  • to enable doctoral students, through continuous mentoring and monitoring, to conduct individual research as well as work on their doctoral dissertation;
  • to strengthen research in fields and areas from entrepreneurship and SME management which are common for the countries in the region;
  • to strengthen the link between doctoral students and the business community.

 

The third cycle study programme in entrepreneurship and SME management is designed for:  

  • preparing new academic staff that will further upgrade this fast growing discipline through study and research;
  • creating professionals from companies who with further development of their creativity and innovation on one hand, and through upgrading the managerial skills related to small and medium sized companies on the other, will allow companies and the economy as a whole, to achieve the desired growth and development.  

This study programme, as such, will allow doctoral students to work on developing attitudes to respect and implement theory, the research methodologies, as well as the important issues the entrepreneurs, public policy creators, resource providers and those supporting the entrepreneurship activities confront with.  It is of a great importance that this study programme will provide a combination of both, best EU teaching practices and the local know-how.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY

This Doctoral Program will be realized with joint lectures - one professor from EU and one professor from WBU on each course/seminar, and - with assistance and guest lecturers from EU partners. The programme is on regular basis teaching classes and activities with distance learning parts. Since this is a doctoral programme, many seminars and other contemporary forms of academic teaching, including distance learning, shall be included.
