On the
1st semester of the
Doctoral Programme in Entrepreneurship and SME Management

The Faculty of Economics – Prilep, as first Unit in the framework of the University "St.Kliment Ohridski" Bitola and among the first in the Republic of Macedonia developed and implemented PhD programme in Entrepreneurship and SME Management as third cycle of studies and unique as  Regional Joint Doctoral Programme in English.
This Doctoral programme is developed in the framework of the  Tempus Project  Developing of the Regional Joint Doctoral Programme in Entrepreneurship and SME Management for Western Balkan Countries, financed by European Commission and its  Executive Agency for Education, Audiovision and Culture (EACEA)
This Doctoral Programme  is a result of the efforts undertaken by 12 partners that share common vision about its development.
3 EU University partners (Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna, Italy as a coordinator, Autònoma University from Barcelona, Spain and University of Nice – Sophia Antipolis, France) and 9 partners from countries in Western Balkan Region of which 5 Universities (University "St.Kliment Ohridski" Bitola, Republic of Macedonia(as a local coordinator and host institution of the Doctoral programmme), South East European University, Republic of Macedonia , University of Tirana, Albania, Agricultural University of Tirana, Albania, Dardania University, Kosovo )
In order to bring the doctoral programme closer to the needs and requirements of the work force market of the Western Balkan countries different institutions are included in the project such as: The Agency for Promotion of Entrepreneurship of the Republic of Macedonia (APERM), Macedonian Chambers of Commerce (MCC) and Seavus company from the Republic of Macedonia, as well as the Confederation of Albanian industries from Albania (Konfindustria) and they participate in the creation of the curriculum. As active partners in this project, APERM, MCC, Seavus and Konfindustria with their many years of intensive experience in the cooperation with businesses, will offer transfer of practical knowledge, access to high technology and extensive database and practical training opportunities. They will also contribute for a quality research work of the doctoral students allowing them to use the database of the companies they work with, as well as establishing direct contact with them.



Pre-enrollment activities

On 14.09.2011, the University "St. Kliment Ohridski "- Bitola, announced the COMPETITION (call) for enrollment of students at the third cycle - doctoral studies for the study programme: Entrepreneurship and SMEs management at the University of “St. Kliment Ohridski”- Bitola in the academic year 2011/2012.

The PhD Programme was advertized through many media: DOCSMES web site, FB profile, Radio, TV. A great number of flyers, brochures, posters were sent to the all universities in the partner countries. Agency for Promotion of Entrepreneurship of the Republic of Macedonia, Macedonian Chambers of Commerce, Seavus dooel Skopje, also  promoted this programme shearing the promotional materials with their partners and entire business sector.
During the promotion done by all project partners – Universities and no-university partners there was a great interest for enrollment to this programme. 39 students from four WB countries applied for admission.
The PMB Committee members prepared the main elements of the evaluation criteria. This criteria was following:

After developing the evaluation criteria, the application forms from the applicants were evaluated regarding their Preliminary formal accomplishment. It was concluded that six (6) of 39 applications didn’t fulfill the preliminary formal accomplishment and 33 applicants were selected for Interview procedure. According to the Competition announcement 21 candidates should have be selected for enrollment to the doctoral programme.    (Anex 1 - List of enrolled PhD students)
First class ceremony
On 9.03.2012, at Faculty of Economics – Prilep, UKLO has been organized The First Class Ceremony of the Doctoral program in Entrepreneurship and SMEs management as a Joint Regional Study program of five Universities from Macedonia, Albania and Kosovo with the support of three universities from European Union.
The first class event was attended by representatives of the universities participating in this doctoral program, professors from universities in the EU-project partners, the rector of the University St. Kliment Ohridski in Bitola, Vice-rectors, Dean of Economic Faculty of Tirana University, Vice-Deans of Economics Faculty Prilep, Vice-Deans of the universities partners in the project, professors, Mayor of Prilep and of course, the selected students.
Professor Marika Baseska - Gjorgjieska emphasize the fact that after more than a year preparing, designing and structuring of this study program by the twelve partners in the project it became a reality. While, she emphasized that it would not be realized without the support of the Rectors of the all universities involved in the project and especially of the Rector of the University "St. Kliment Ohridski "- Bitola prof.  Zlatko Zoglev, PhD, vice-rector for teaching prof.  Saso Atanasoski, PhD and the Dean of Faculty of Economics in Prilep, prof.  Georgi Mancheski PhD.

After the First Class Ceremony the students attended introductory lectures given by Professor Massimo Bianchi, Bologna University.

The lectures were realised through 6 weeks intensive joint lectures and 3 weeks on-lene lectures of both professors – one from EU university and one professor from WB University on each course/seminar. Detailed study programmes were distributed to the students. (Anex 2)

On 04-05-2012 the PhD students participated to the Videoconference lecture on the following topic: "New EU project for new study programs in the field Management and Law in public and private sector." This lecture was given prof. Srecko Deviak from the University of Ljubljana. The videoconference was organized by prof. Bianchi, Bologna University.

During the first semester lectures , prof. Baseska organized students to attend two lectures given by the representatives of APPRM -Agency for Promotion of Entrepreneurship
of the Republic Of Macedonia and CCM -Macedonian Chambers of Commerce on the following topics:

  • Svetlana Boskoska from CCM had a presentation on  Macedonia and research opportunities


Internship – winery

As a part of the Internship programme the PhD students visited the Stobi winery in the framework of the course Entrepreneurship and SMEs Management.  They were introduced with the way of turning of an entrepreneurial idea and creativity into ? very successful business.

Teachers and students who are a part of the Doctoral programme in Entrepreneurship and SME management for Western Balkan countries have the opportunity to use the e-learning system at the Faculty of economics in Prilep. This e-learning system is a software package for producing Internet-based courses and web sites, called Moodle. Moodle is provided freely as Open Source software and basically this means Moodle is copyrighted, but that you have additional freedoms.
At first, for each professor was created account with its own ID and Password, after that every teacher was registered as administrator who can uploaded a certain contents on the e-learning system. Moodle provides two basic concepts such as delivery of learning activities and publishing of resources. User-friendly orientation of moodle provides easy customization for users with different needs.
Also, for each student was created user account with its own ID and Password in order that students have access to resources and activities that are uploaded by the professors. Students through this system on-line can fallow all activities in their interest in the Doctoral programe. Each system user can have access to Moodle because Moodle can be installed on any computer, it can be run on Windows and Mac operating systems and many flavors of Linux.
To each of the users of Moodle, professors and students, was sent materials with detailed instruction for using this e-learning tool. In that way, through this e-learning system was enabled continuous communication between students and professors and availability of all necessary materials and contents for students of this PhD Programme.

QA is a very important issue that takes part throughout PhD implementation.  According to the created procedure for the doctoral programme as a whole, student survey was conducted after each professor lectures was finished. Results of the surveys are processed and analyzed. They will be part of the entire process of Self-evaluation of the PhD Programme. (Anex 4 – Questionnaire )
